The Corbett Award will recognize one (or two) outstanding young researchers at ICDS-24. It consists of a certificate signed by the Conference Chairs and a check for U.S. $500. The Award is named in memory of James W. Corbett, one of the pioneers in the field of defects in semiconductors, who always helped and encouraged young researchers. The candidates must be less than 35 years of age on the first day of the conference. They must be the main contributors to the research presented on their posters, in terms of ideas and actual execution of the research. The young researchers who wish to enter this competition should email an extended abstract an extended abstract to Stefan.Estreicher@ttu.edu by April 1, 2007. The length of this abstract is limited to two pages in Microsoft Word format. This abstract may contain mathematical symbols, figures and references, as appropriate. In addition, the applicants should arrange for one letter of recommendation by their research advisors. This letter, limited to one page, should be emailed to Stefan.Estreicher@ttu.edu by the April 1 deadline. Only one abstract per applicant will be considered. Up to six (6) finalists will be selected from the list of applicants by a panel of judges. These finalists will be interviewed by the panel during the Monday afternoon poster session. The primary criteria for the selection of the finalists are the originality and quality of the research performed by the candidate. The Corbett posters will remain exhibited at the Tuesday and Thursday poster sessions for general viewing. The winner(s) will be announced at the conference banquet. |
